Water scorpion
Water scorpion
The species is common in the whole territory of Latvia and Lithuania, however, due to the hidden and passive way of life, it is rarely observed. Feeds on various small aquatic animals, tadpoles, fish fry. They usually ambush the victim, grab it with their forefeet and suck out. It occurs in various overgrown waters – lakes, ponds, inexhaustible ditches. If necessary, it is able to fly relatively well – in order make it off the ground, the water scorpion climbs on a water plant, most often on the leaves of reeds or floating aquatic plants.
