Musk beetle
Musk beetle
Musk beetle belongs to the longhorn beetles’ family. It is a relatively rare species included in the 4th category of the Latvian Red Data Bookm, but quite common in Lithuania. Musk beetles lay eggs in the wood of weakened willow, less often aspen or poplar, from which larvae develop, which live there until they develop into adult insects. The metathorax has aromatic pores, with which the beetle emits a smell reminiscent of musk. The colouring of beetles is very diverse, more than 20 different colour shapes are known.
