The species is common in Latvia and Lithuania. It nests mainly near water bodies, in bushy meadows and along reed beds. Some individuals overwinter regularly. The reed bunting feeds mainly on invertebrates during the nesting season and on seeds and other parts of plants in the rest of the time. The male has characteristic black head and throat. Females are grey-brown, with inconspicuous plumage.
