It is often found throughout the territory of Latvia and Lithuania, one of the most common fish species, angling and fishing object. It resides in slow-flowing or stagnant waters – ponds, lakes, slow-flowing sections of plain rivers, oxbows. It is also found in anthropogenically formed water bodies, ecologically tolerant species. Crucian carp basically feeds on zoobenthos organisms. They tend to form hybrids with silver carp and carp. The most resilient fish in Latvia in relation to lack of oxygen. In Latvia specimens of this species are able to reach the age of 12 years and their weight tends to exceed 3 kg.
