Relatively rare species, nests in heavily overgrown ponds and lakes. They overwinter in small numbers, usually in populated areas or in cities where frost-free waters remain. Legs are bright yellow, with long toes, without web. Long toes are suitable for walking on soft, uneven ground and water surface vegetation. White lowland feathers are often visible when swimming.
