They nest quite frequently in open landscapes near water, in wet grasslands on riverbanks, in bogs. The number of nesting birds has significantly decreased over the recent years due to reduction of the area of their nesting habitat – natural grasslands. They winter in Africa, on the south of Sahara Desert, return from hibernation sites in the middle of April. They have 1 – 2 clutches per year.
