Grasslands are one of those habitats whose existence and quality directly depend on human activities – mowing (with collecting of cut material) or grazing. Although the Esplanade wetland grassland has not been managed for many years and is partially overgrown with shrubs, one can still find grasses, that are more common for the grassland, and also less common plants, including even some orchid species. Cutting of bushes and grassland management would increase appearance of more and more plant species over time, and thus also insect species such as butterflies. Do you know how many plant species can be found in one square meter of good grassland?
