Raft spider

Raft spider

It occurs in various wet and relatively sparse places – swamps, around ponds. It actively hunts various insects, moves along the surface of aquatic plants: waterlilies, pondweeds, bur-reeds. Adult spiders can attack fish fry and tadpoles. They lie under water in case of danger. They do not build trap webs. The female forms a nest-like web before laying the eggs, by pulling several grass stalks together with the webs in it. The nest is guarded.
