Common in eastern and southeastern Latvia. Protected species in Lithuania, enlisted into the Red Data Book of Lithuania; locations are mostly restricted to central and  northeastern part of Lithuania. They hunt over stagnant or slow-flowing waters and feeds on small beetles, butterflies, mayflies and diptera, catching them with their feet and wing membrane. Summer colonies are more often located in man-made buildings – churches, attics, less often – in wooden cavities or bird cages. They hibernate in sandy or dolomite caves, basements, cracks in buildings.
