Northern red oak
Northern red oak
Northern red oak is not a native species – it grows wild in North America. Introduced in Europe in the 18th century and has naturalized in most Western and Central European countries. In Latvia, northern red oak can grow up to 25 m long, but in natural conditions in North American forests this species can reach up to 40 m in length. In autumn, northern red oaks are especially beautiful – their leaves turn red, so they are often used in greenery. In recent years, the migration of this species into the wild has been observed in Latvia.
