Four-spotted skimmer is a very common species in Latvia and Lithuania. Its larvae develop within two years and occur in almost any stagnant or slow-flowing body of water. Adults feed mainly on mosquitoes, biting midges and black flies, while larvae of this skimmer species feed mainly on larvae of other water insects and tadpoles. Periodic mass migrations are characteristic to this species.
