Great pond snail

Great pond snail

A very common species that inhabits ponds, lakes and slow-flowing waters. Feeds on decaying organic matter, microscopic organisms that settle on rocks, aquatic plants and other underwater surfaces. Great pond snails are hermaphrodites – each individual has both female and male genitals. In the process of reproduction, there is always a copulation of two individuals, where they fertilize each other.
