The invasive species in Latvia and Lithuania. The natural range of it covers North America. Its spread contributed to the extinction of native species, the European mink, in almost entire its range. American mink negatively affects northern water voles and waterfowl by destroying their nests. They inhabit all types of coastal habitats, feed on small rodents, fish, frogs, crustaceans, birds, etc. They often hunt a pray that is larger than the animal itself.
