Azure damselfly is widespread and very common in Europe and ranges east to the Siberian lowland, in north – to south Fennoscandia. It widespread in Kazakhstan, Turkey, Armenia, Georgia, found in Kyrgyzstan, also found in part of north Africa. In Europe this species is among the most widespread and common damselflies, often occurs at high densities. Azure damselfly is found at a wide range of standing and slow-flowing generally mesotrophic to eutrophic waters with well-developed bank-side vegetation. The species clearly favors water with floating vegetation, which is used as substrate for oviposition. Adults can be found from May to September. Adults usually stays close to the vegetation around the pond or lake. The nymphs develop in one year (two in the northern part of areal), feeding among submerged vegetation on small invertebrates.
